LWPOA Water Quality - Tracy Wilson
LWPOA has a partnership with AWW (Alabama Water Watch) for the monitoring of Lake Wedowee water quality. The volunteers of the LWPOA Water Quality committee test the water in Lake Wedowee and its tributaries, providing an invaluable service not only to association members but to the larger community of water users in our region and all our downstream neighbors. Volunteers are trained, formally certified and apply the principles of AWW (Alabama Water Watch) on how to monitor and evaluate physical, chemical and biological features of water. WE NEED ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERS! Below is a link for more information on Water Monitoring Certification and one to water testing results across all of Alabama.

If you are interested in becoming a Water Monitor Volunteer or see a potential water quality problem please contact LWPOA Water Quality Chairman, Tracy Wilson.

LWPOA Lake Navigation - John Beaty
LWPOA partners with the Alabama Marine Police to replace and maintain the hazard buoys on the lake. In 2025 we replaced 6 missing or damaged buoys and so far in 2026 have placed boating regulation signage at 8 different launch locations. The buoys mark areas that are too shallow to safely operate a boat at summer or winter water levels. Several of the hazard buoys in strategic locations are lighted to assist navigating the lake at night for fishermen and pleasure boaters. LWPOA can only mark select hazards as approved by the Alabama Marine Police. We have no authority to place “No Wake” or other restrictive buoys. The buoys and accessories are purchased by the LWPOA and made possible by the annual dues paid by our membership.
The Association is very grateful to our local Alabama Marine Police officers who work tirelessly to protect us on the lake. You may never meet them, but they will be there for our lake community when we need them.
***The Marine Police are not funded by tax dollars but are almost entirely funded by your Alabama Boat Registration fees.
